Plain-language definitions for the terms used in our guides and calculator.
Wallet
An application or device used to manage accounts and authorize actions with signing keys.
Private key
A secret used to sign actions for an account. Anyone with it may be able to control the assets.
Gas
A unit measuring computation required by an Ethereum transaction.
Gwei
A denomination equal to one billionth of an ETH, commonly used for gas prices.
Transaction hash
An identifier used to look up a submitted transaction on a network explorer.
Confirmation
A transaction's inclusion and subsequent progress toward a network's finality conditions.
